I've lived in New York City for two years now. It took that long for my parents to finally come and visit, and for me to track down (with their assistance) relatives spread out all over New York who I didn't even know existed.

Over the course of three days, I met at least fifteen aunts, uncles and cousins, and ate more meals than I typically eat in an entire week. This is Alexander, a member of what turns out to be my very large extended family in NYC.

A horse is a horse... except if it's Icelandic.

Icelandic horses are more like ponies — small and densely furry. I rode this one, a grass-loving trotter named Lisa, around lava fields in a town about 30 minutes south of of Reykjavík, Iceland, for about two hours in weather conditions that can, at best, be described as torrentially misty.

When riding horses, you are never supposed to hold the reins with fewer than two hands. This photo is obvious proof of my disregard for that rule.
